The Roadmap

Introduction

The Skills for Youth Employment (SkYE) Programme is a 4-year, UKAid-funded programme to improve certified skills training for the youth of four Eastern Caribbean countries: Dominica, Grenada, St Lucia and St Vincent & the Grenadines.

The SkYE programme remains committed to working with young persons with disabilities to secure their inclusion in education and training, and enhance their opportunities for significant employment. To continue fulfillment of this commitment, SkYE engaged national training authorities, training providers and employers from its for (4) partner islands in a series of workshops.

The Process

The workshop was delivered in four (4) modules that led participants to an understanding of persons with disabilities, and to exploring their own perceptions and that of their respective agencies towards persons with disabilities. The sessions were conducted June-August 2021 and required participants to be involved in readings, group activities and online presentations.

The concluding result of the workshop was the development of a framework and relevant programming that would lead to the gradual inclusion of young persons with disabilities into those organisations. In addition to the framework, a sustainable network will be established between the participants to facilitate the continuation of discussions and the forward movement of the inclusive agenda for young persons with disabilities.
